Comment: Doug Barber on why the global retail industry needs to get together in London at Retail Design Expo

London is a melting pot of world beating innovation across the retail, fashion and product design industries.  So many inspirational ideas come out of the UK, and our history of matchless design skills attracts business from around the word.

Now that the planet is becoming a smaller place through the growth of technology, it is quite possible to work with clients on a global scale as a UK-based agency.   As a result this British reputation for innovation attracts many international clients to our shores to engage with British design agencies. Our talent pool of ideas can be translated across the world.

We have also seen a huge increase in UK-based clients expanding their commercial offers abroad and international clients wanting to work with us in their own countries.  Clients continually seek out the talent and innovation that the UK is famous for.

With its excellent transport links, London offers easy access to both UK and international clients and this hotbed of British retail design talent can be easily accessed at Retail Design Expo. More and more we see agencies collaborate with one another as part of a group to provide clients with the best solution, so the ability to engage with other likeminded brands at Retail Expo allows us to engage and explore opportunities to collaborate  on certain projects 'for the bigger gain'.

Beyond this we are also seeing the increasing importance of integration with specialist suppliers  such as in-store technology solution providers, innovative product suppliers and quality manufacturers  (both locally and globally).  This allows us to provide our clients with a 'one stop shop' if required from design through to fit out in different territories.  Retail Expo allows us to meet and partner with relevant specialists who are at the top of their game.
