£2m facelift at Birmingham's Grand Central

Shopping centre group Hammerson has green lit a £2m upgrade project at New Street Mall, at Grand Central in Birmingham.

Interior changes will result in a more 'vibrant and engaging' entrance to Grand Central, the retail and leisure hub integrated with Birmingham New Street station – one of the busiest transport hubs in the country. New seating will also be installed, in a bid to increase customer dwell time, while store fronts and lighting will be upgraded and improved. Design work is by HFM Architects.

The changes will be introduced during October, while a second phase of development, set to be completed by Spring 2020, will upgrade the double height atrium at Grand Central.

“This £2m project will transform New Street Mall and Grand Central, creating a fresh and dynamic entrance, with an eye-catching double-height atrium. Across our portfolio, we’re always looking at ways to improve the experience for our partners and customers, and this is a fantastic example of that,” says Hammerson portfolio director Conrad Bacon.

“Bullring & Grand Central is one of the UK’s best retail and leisure destinations, and the investment we’ve announced today will help ensure we continue to deliver for both consumers and brands for many years to come.”
