Construction work starts on Kotka Old Port outlet centre

Construction work has started on the Kotka Old Port Designer Outlet – the first such development in Finland – after planners gave the final go-ahead to the project following the withdrawal of appeals against it.

The scheme has been created by international property group GVA Sawyer, with design by architecture group AHR. When finished, the centre will include more than 200 boutique stores alongside the existing National Maritime Museum. A marina, terminals for ferries and cruise ships, hotels, restaurants and casinos will also feature.

The site of Kotka Old Port, between Helsinki and St Petersburg, makes it ideally located for Russian tourists as well as for Finnish consumers.

“This is a historical moment for Kotka and a unique step towards an outlet concept that is totally new in Finland,” says GVA Sawyer CEO Cameron Sawyer. “It is much more than a collection of top international fashion outlet brands. Soon we can publish a list of hotel, restaurant, spa, cruise and other companies that will breathe new life to the Old Port, Finland’s first premium brand outlet site on a waterfront.”
