Intu confirms builder for Lakeside leisure extension

Shopping centre group Intu has appointed McLaren Construction to build the planned 16,250 sq m (175,000 sq ft) leisure extension at its Lakeside centre. The £73m centre will open in 2018.

A Nickelodeon-themed family entertainment centre and a Hollywood Bowl tenpin bolwing alley will anchor the scheme. Construction work will begin this month.

“We’re investing millions at Intu Lakeside to ensure that it can deliver one of the biggest and best shopping and leisure experiences in the country and it’s exciting to see our plans take shape with the appointment of McLaren Construction to build the first phase of the centre’s extension,” says Intu managing director Rebecca Ryman. “It is going to provide a fantastic new space for leisure brands to flourish… and create even more compelling reasons for families to enjoy a day out experience with us.”

Work continues on a extension to Intu Watford, and work is due to start on the redevelopment of Intu Broadmarsh.
