Lighting showcase: The Body Shop in Bern

The Body Shop’s Bern, Switzerland, store has been given a lighting make-over by Ansorg. The new lighting scheme seeks to reflect the brand’s value and emphasise the store’s best points.

The project included a number of services, including the fine tuning of perimeter lighting, and the inclusion of light sculptures and merchandise presentations to give the store extra shine.

Single and double rows of gimbal-mounted luminaires are used on the ceiling of the store, as the basic element of its vertical lighting arrangement. The intense light provided by this approach allowed the retailer to dispense with other basic lighting elements.

Each product axis is given its own lighting, while close-set spotlights create ‘light sculptures’ that highlight promotional areas.

Creating a bright and welcoming entrance is used to overcome the narrow frontage of the store relative to its overall size, tempting customers inside. Low ceilings in the unit, which is situated in an older building, demanded a complex lighting concept.

“The building’s architecture meant it was necessary to use light to enhance its appeal and attract customers,” says The Body Shop Switzerland retail manager Michelle Lehner. “The lighting concept marries our philosophy with the building’s architecture. It was the only way to create the perfect basis for an individual and creative in-shop lighting concept."
