Design showcase: Gabor's new shoe store concept

Women’s shoe brand Gabor has opened a new-look store designed by longstanding design agency D’art Design Gruppe.

The first example of the store concept has opened in Rosenheim in Germany, where Gabor’s head office is based.

The store has been designed to help emphasise Gabor’s positioning as a maker of high quality products, using a monochrome palette to reflect its brand values.

Rather than being driven by the function of selling shoes, the store has been designed to emphasise the importance of meeting customers and providing a welcoming experience. A spacious lounge set is used to create a sense of hospitality and to encourage customers to spend time in the store.

Photo collages on the walls tell stories from the history of Gabor, a traditional company that has been established for nearly 70 years.

Shapes, materials and colours have been chosen to contribute further to the a homely atmosphere, with a soft carpet and wooden shelves combined with grey concrete and black-painted steel.

A work table in the centre of the store is used for customer consultations, allowing space to compare ranges and research online products without putting staff behind a barrier.

“It was important to use that the new shop concept is not just modern but also transformable,” says Gabor Shoes CEO Achim Gabor. “The added value compared to online shopping should be clearly tangible due to the lounge character. Authentic materials, an inviting, comfortable atmosphere and great flexibility and scalability are what distinguish the shop.”

A national and international rollout of the new store design is planned for 2019, working with shopfitting company Innenausbau.
