First out-of-town Market Halls venue opens

New food hall brand The Hall – operated by Market Halls, which runs a number of central London sites – has opened its first branch at Intu Lakeside.

The Hall is the first out-of-town concept from Market Halls, and is located in the new £72m leisure extension at Lakeside. Space Invader Design was appointed to create the space, which brings together a selection of independent food brands in a 1,347 sq m (14,500 sq ft) hall which offers six kitchens, a coffee shop, pop-up areas for food trucks, and two bars.

It seeks to provide the ‘big city energy’ created by the theatre of street food in an out-of-town shopping centre. Food brands include Burger and BeyondFundi Pizza, and Curry on Naanstop.

“This is an exciting avenue for Market Halls. The Hall will provide a new and vibrant social dining option for the 20 million visitors to Intu Lakeside every year,” says Market Halls CEO Andy Lewis-Pratt.

“We’re transforming one of the country’s most popular shopping centres into a major leisure destination for the south east and this is giving the brands taking space here a fantastic platform from which to thrive. Demand for space in the extension has been high and we’re working with some of the best operator out there as a result,” says Intu regional managing director Rebecca Ryman.

Café bar brand Casco Lounge is due to open in the leisure extension at the shopping centre next month, with a number of other leisure brands – including Puttshack, Hollywood Bowl, Flip Out and Zizzi – either trading already or scheduled to open soon.
