Hotel Chocolat to set up shop in former Islington Bank

Luxury chocolatier Hotel Chocolat is to open its next store at Angel Central, in London's Islington. The brand has taken a 120 sq m (1,288 sq ft) space, where it plans to open in November.

As well as its popular chocolate products the store will feature Hotel Chocolat's range of drinks and ices.

The site at 14 Upper Street was formerly occupied by Barclays Bank. Redesigned by an in-house team, the café space will cater for eight covers. The new site will also feature an outdoor space, with hot beverages on offer alongside luxury chocolates and the brand's ‘Ice Cream of the Gods’ which is available only at select sites.

“We are delighted with this prominent unit in the heart of Angel, a stone’s throw away from the station and the sizeable office presence, adjacent to the entrance to Angel Central. The area is perfect for our target customer, and this destination is a great location for our brand, especially considering the new plans for the centre to add to an already vibrant mix of dining, retail, and leisure operators,” says Hotel Chocolat CEO and co-founder, Angus Thirlwell.

Laura Wilson-Brown, head of asset management UK at Angel Central owner CBRE Global Investors, adds: “We acquired the unit in April as part of our wider investment plans in the area, and have been working hard to secure a brand which will align with the attractive offer provided by our current tenants, in advance of further new additions when the centre refurbishment is complete in early 2020.”
