Justin King confirmed as keynote speaker at RetailEXPO

Former Sainsbury’s CEO Justin King CBE is to be the keynote speaker at RetailEXPO, where he will address some of the key issues currently facing the industry.

King’s session, Cutting through the hype: Is this really a retailpocalypse? will examine trends and macroeconomic factors that are impacting retailers – from changing consumer habits and spending patterns to the growth in online shopping and the potential fallout from Brexit. He will provide insight into navigating market turbulence and look ahead to trade in 2020 and beyond.

King was CEO of Sainsbury’s from 2004 to 2014, taking the retailer through a turnaround period that included the credit crunch of 2008. He had previously been head of food at Marks & Spencer, and has recently become a non-executive director there.

“It seems that there has never been more change or greater pressures heaped upon the High Street.  From online growth to business rates, CVAs and Brexit - and all at a time of low consumer confidence - has meant many have claimed a “retail apocalypse” may be upon us,” says King. “We will take a look at some of the facts behind the headlines at RetailEXPO this year and perhaps paint a somewhat different view of what the future might hold for retail.”

RetaillEXPO event director Matt Bradley adds: “We’re thrilled to have a formidable industry figurehead such as Justin leading our keynote session and discussing these business-critical challenges, and giving our show audiences insight on how to navigate market turbulence and drive long-term business performance,” he concluded.
