Mixed-use Didcot development completed

A new mixed-use centre featuring branches of retailers including Asda and Costa Coffee has been completed, and will form the centre of a 3,300 home extension to Didcot Great Western Park in Oxfordshire.

Designed and delivered by architectural practice Stephen George + Partners (SGP), the development houses a 1,022 sq m (11,000 sq ft) Asda store, and 873 sq m (9,400 sq ft) of additional retail units, along with 20 apartments and some engaging public spaces.

The client, Henry Davidson Developments, was keen to balance commercial and community aspirations for the area.

"The design centred around providing a first class local centre with first class facilities. We've taken on board the views of the local community to create an attractive, inclusive scheme, integrated into its surroundings, which people will want to visit and enjoy. With a strong sense of identity, the development will feed and sustain a growing local economy now and in the future,” says SGP director Stuart Hancox.

The surrounding area, including landmark local buildings, provided inspiration for the design, which seeks to reflect the youthful local population.
