New kiosk format for Dixons Travel airport stores

Dixons Travel has launched a new kiosk format store at London Southend Airport.

The Travel Kiosk was designed in-house to capitalise on retail opportunities in smaller spaces within airports. Measuring 10 sq m (108 sq ft) is is less than a quarter of the size of more typical Dixons Travel stores, and seeks to provide a fast and convenient service for customers.

London Southend Airport was chosen as the site for the first example of the kiosk store as it is experiencing rapid growth: passenger numbers are set to double over the next five years. Dixons Travel vending machines already located in the airport have been recording strong sales.

The kiosk format features a compact wall of products, with a focus on headphones, speakers, cameras and travel accessories, reflecting the typical traveller profile of an airport which flies mostly to short haul holiday destinations. The kiosk stocks brands such as Bose, Beats, Sony, and GoPro.

A concealed storage area in the kiosk allows staff easy access to additional inventory to ensure a fast customer experience.

“Following the success of our vending machines in London Southend Airport, we’re excited to be launching an innovative new store format for customers,” says Dixons Travel managing director Heidi Woodhouse.

“Our first Travel Kiosk has been created to specifically serve key passenger needs in Southend and our highly trained colleagues are on hand to deliver expert advice and top deals to customers without impacting on overall airport dwell time.”
