Polaris shines light on culture for Liverpool ONE's Christmas celebration

Thousands of visitors were attracted to the switching-on ceremony of a Christmas Light installation at Liverpool ONE’s Chavasse Park this year, according to the centre. The event was the finale of celebrations that began in mid-November.

The installation was created by local artist Mark Robinson, who has previously displayed works at events including the Glastonbury Festival. His latest creation is called Polaris: Dare to Dream. It has been designed to represent the people, art, music, trade, education, and sport that give Liverpool its rich culture.

Constructed of 96 colour-changing cubes, each weighing 65kg and containing LED lights, the installation will be lit 24 hours a day until 9 January 2019.

“The fact that Liverpool ONE has chosen to commission such a bold original work to mark their Christmas celebrations shows they embrace love of culture and creative ambition as keenly as anyone in the city.  Liverpool ONE always delivers a brilliant atmosphere at Christmas and Polaris will help to take this to the next level,” says Liverpool culture director Claire McColgan.
