Restaurant Sumosan to open Alpine resort branch

Japanese dining group Sumosan is to grow its international presence further with the opening of a new restaurant and bar, located at Six Senses Residences Courchevel, a luxury ski resort and spa in the French Alps owned by Cain International and Promocour 1850.

The restaurant will feature interiors designed by Morpheus London, which will blend minimalist Japanese motifs with elements inspired by the Alpine location. The venue will provide an alternative to the traditional fondue and raclette dining options to reflect a growing demand for global cuisine.

Sumosan was founded in Moscow in 1997, and opened a London branch in 2002. It has restaurants in locations including Montenegro, Berlin and Dubai. It is known for its sushi and sashimi dishes.

Jonathan Goldstein, CEO of Cain International, says: “We approached [London property group] Shelley Sandzer to help us provide something quite unique at Courchevel because of their extensive knowledge of the fast-paced London dining scene, combined with an international outlook. They brought Sumosan to us and we are delighted to have secured such a highly regarded, innovative brand for Six Senses Residences Courchevel.”

The Courchevel restaurant will open in December this year.
