Selfridges explores State of The Arts with Oxford Street windows exhibition

London department store Selfridges has started 2019 with State of The Arts, a campaign created to harness the creative power of a number of artists, galleries and collaborators while reinforcing the store’s ongoing commitment to the arts.

The objective is to present art in unexpected place, and to explore how art can enhance a community. Partners in the project include the IKON Gallery, the Gagosian Gallery, and the Manchester School or Art.

Selfridges has invited dozens of artists to display – and in some cases create – their works in its windows and shop floor display spaces. Unusually, the displays little or no merchandise for sale.

Nine critically acclaimed artists are currently featured in the windows of the Oxford Street store: Darren Almond, Spencer Finch, Douglas Gordon, Chantal Joffe, Yayoi Kusama, Simon Periton, Michal Rovner, Conrad Shawcross and Richard Wright.

State of The Arts will run until 30 March 2019.
