Uniqlo to open new anchor at Angel Central

Japanese clothing retailer Uniqlo is to be the new anchor tenant at Angel Central, in Islington in London. The brand will open a 1,440 sq m (15,500 sq ft) store, designed by an in-house team, in late 2019.

The shopping centre, which is undergoing an £11m redevelopment scheme, has created a bespoke unit for Uniqlo. Situated opposite H&M, the store provides around a third of its space at ground floor level, with the rest in a basement area below.

Uniqlo launched in 1984 and how has more than 1,000 store worldwide. The Islington branch will stock the brand’s LifeWear range of simple, quality basics.

“It’s a privilege to be opening at North London’s most popular retail and leisure destination, with such a strong footfall and an exciting refurbishment, Angel Central is a very attractive location. We look forward to launching our new store and offering new and existing customers our LifeWear range,” says Uniqlo EU CEO Take Morikawa.

Angel Central’s redevelopment is intended to improve its offer and positioning by upgrading its retail offer, and also improving the food and drink mix, more fitness and leisure operators and upgraded customer facilities.

“We are thrilled to announce this international fashion brand joining Angel Central as the new anchor tenant. UNIQLO has firmly established itself as a leader in the retail marketplace and they will be a very popular addition to the scheme for our customers and the local community. We look forward to continuing to welcome other dynamic retail, restaurant and leisure tenants, alongside UNIQLO, to a revitalised Angel Central,” says Laura Wilson-Brown, head of UK asset management at Angel Central owner CBRE Global Investors.
