VM Showcase: The Lion King launch at The Disney Store

The Disney Store on London’s Oxford Street has installed a Savannah-themed area to promote the new film version of The Lion King.

The retailer’s in-house design teams worked with visual merchandising specialist agency Propabilty to create the immersive space, which includes a rich soundscape as well as lush artificial foliage and a tempting interactive photo opportunity.

Shoppers are drawn into the area through a branded archway, which uses around 15 sq m of lifelike, fire-rated foliage, which took more than 50 hours to dress. Changing colours give the impression that the plants become more parched and arid as customers progress through the store, reflecting the landscape and plot of the film. Floor vinyls are used to emphasise the change, which uses more than 100 different artificial grasses.

A pair of 3m tall flat-top trees and jungle sound effects add to the atmosphere, while a sculpted fibreglass centrepiece features a carved paw print and the message ‘Remember who you are’ – in a direct reference to a pivotal moment in the film. Customers are encouraged to share images of their interaction with the centrepiece via social media channels.

The surrounding shelves and fixtures are fully stocked with The Lion King merchandise.
